The following night offered a glass lake . I took advantage of this using only an electric trolling motor and my small vessel ( 14ft aluminum ) I landed 4 fish in the 3 - 6lb range close to shore . Two were caught trolling and two anchored up in 7 FOW throwing bomber long A's ! Walleye activity was excellent with fish actively feeding on the surface heavily from 10 PM until 2 AM ! The walleye caught had alot of smelt ( local baitfish) in thier bellies .
I am happy to say the catching of these Walleyes will help our future steelhead fishery as they devour many young of the year steelhead smolts (entirely different species of fish than smelt) leaving the tributary mouths in the spring ! Reports of perch being caught in the 35 FOW range or 1 mile offshore have been spread and I will definately verify the rumor soon. I also included a picture of an average Lake Erie smallmouth and the feast had after the Walleye night .
