After a noble trolling effort for near shore steel head we decided to anchor up at Trout Run and my first mate ( James ) landed a 24" 4 lb brown trout ( pictured below ) on a 1/3 ounce cleo . We landed a few small mouth bass while trolling . The lake temperature was 67 degrees ; still too warm for a consistent steel head trolling bite near shore .

Had 13 hook ups on lower Elk ; was only able to bring 3 of them to hand as they are fresh fish and difficult to land . After raising my tippet size from 6lb to 8lb test the fish began to co-operate . Nick landed his first fish with a fly rod on a white flash articulated stone fly ( pictured below ) .

The rains came and dumped .75" raising the Lake Erie tributaries enough for some upstream movement.
Wed 9/28
Fished middle Elk Creek for about 2 hours hooked 6 and landed 3 of the 6 fish . A few dozen fish were observed moving upstream quickly under the cover of darkness .
