We trolled for 3 hours with only one Walleye brought over the rail and five fish lost half way to the boat . We decided to perch fish and brought 90 over the rail in 4 hours of fishing . A bonus Walleye was had perch fishing by Dan ! Two walleye caught while perch fishing in two weeks ( a very uncommon occurence ) .... Lightning can strike twice . 8-24 Wednesday
Connie & her crew from Pittsburgh , PA , Florida , & Texas had a fish fry with my mate Dan & I . Although the lake blew ( 4-8 foot waves )Wednesday we shared some stories & had an excellent time together . We rescheduled for 2012 . Thank you Oneida for breakfast ; I'm looking forward to putting you on some fish next season : ) . 8-25 Thursday John & Son , Nick , & Denny from Pittsburgh , PA had a great experience on a not so co-operative lake (3-5 foot waves) . We delayed our start until 9:30 AM to hit the perch first and miss the 5 foot waves lying in wait at the 40-06 line ( 8 miles out in Walleye Country ). We brought 50 perch and numerous freshwater drum to the boat in 3 hours . We decided the bite dried up and headed out to the Walleye picking grounds , The fish finder revealed many Walleye holding on the 40-06 line but unfortunately they had lock jaw ; only 4 were brought into the boat for the duration of our day . We did share so good stories , commradere , and some laughs along the way . The lightning storm from earlier in the morning had the bite shutdown and the wind mill in Conneaut , Ohio told the tale with broke blades from a lightning strike . Joe & his crew from Liberty , PA joined us for some Perch & Walleye action on Monday . With a little luck from the weather god the passing thunderstorm did not affect our travels ; staying just inland from our position . We began Perch fishing in rough 3-5 ft waves with an occasional 6 ftr and having a 1 mile drag before the anchor struck pay dirt by 10 AM we had boxed 180 Perch ( a six person limit ) and were on our way to look for eyes .
Unfortunately the wind had the eye bite shutdown with what looked like a promising first hour of trolling with three eyes in the box between 4 & 7 lbs . The eyes would not co-operate after that so we headed back to dock early for what would be a 3 hour cut & bag operation . The 180 perch yeilded 20lbs of fillets and 60 lbs of waste so I would say we took what we could get and had an excellent day despite the 20-25 knot winds . Thank you fellas for the excellent company and helping "clicker" stay on his feet ! |
